Found my favorite book!

Oh my goodness, I was looking for a specific poetry collection, a somewhat obscure one, and I just couldn't find it anywhere. Then I tried IndieBound, and it showed me a little independent bookstore about an hour away that had a signed copy! I drove there that weekend and picked it up. It was so exciting to find it, and the store itself was super charming. I'm definitely going to use IndieBound again to find more unique books and support those awesome local places!

Decent price on a new release

I was looking for a new release, a hardcover biography, and checked a few places. IndieBound linked me to a local shop that had it for about 15% less than the big online retailers, plus I didn't have to pay for shipping since I picked it up myself. Felt like a good deal, especially for a new book. Worth the trip across town.

Always reliable, great selection

I've bought from IndieBound several times now, mostly graphic novels. This time I got 'Saga, Vol. 1'. It was just like before, easy to find a local store with it in stock, and then I picked it up the next day. No surprises, which is what I like. Good to support local shops.

is indiebound legit? never heard of it until now, wondering if it's safe to use to find bookstores.

B Ben Robinson 2 weeks ago
Totally legit! It's run by the American Booksellers Association. It's basically their way of helping smaller bookstores compete with Amazon.

Super legit. I use it all the time to find new local shops. It's a good way to support independent businesses.

can i use a gift card i got for a local bookstore on IndieBound? like, if i have a physical gift card.

E Emma R. 2 weeks ago
You wouldn't use it on IndieBound directly, no. IndieBound is just the finder. Once you click through to a specific local bookstore's website to make a purchase, you'd try to use your gift card there, assuming it's for that particular store.

Only if the gift card is for the exact store you're buying from, and you're checking out on their website. IndieBound doesn't handle payments or gift cards.

hey, trying to figure out if i can actually buy books directly from this site or if it's just like a directory for local stores? seems a bit confusing.

J Josh 2 weeks ago
Yeah, it's mostly a directory. You find a book you like, then it shows you which local stores have it, or links you to their online shops, sometimes Bookshop.org too. You don't checkout on IndieBound itself.

Right, you pick a store and then you're basically buying from *their* website. So shipping and stuff depends on that specific store. It's cool though, really helps find local gems.

planning to buy a bunch of books for my classroom. do they offer any kind of educator discount or bulk pricing if i go through IndieBound?

B Betty 4 weeks ago
Some individual stores might, but IndieBound itself is just connecting you. You'd have to check with the specific local bookstore you're buying from directly. They might have their own policies for educators or bulk orders.

Yeah, I've heard of some local shops doing educator deals. Best bet is to find a store near you via IndieBound and then contact them directly about it.

Does anyone know if IndieBound has its own discount codes or free shipping deals? Like, if I'm browsing here, can I apply a general code?

M Melissa Jackson 1 month ago
Nah, not really. IndieBound itself doesn't have promo codes. Any coupons or free shipping are usually from the individual bookstores you end up buying from, or sometimes through Bookshop.org if that's where you're directed.

I've only ever seen discounts come from the specific store's website after I click through from IndieBound. So keep an eye out on *their* sites, not IndieBound directly.

do they ever have signed copies or limited editions available? how would i even find those through IndieBound?

S Sean H. 1 week ago
You'd have to search for those on the individual bookstore's websites after you find them through IndieBound. Sometimes bigger indie stores will list them on their own sites. IndieBound itself doesn't track that kind of specific inventory.

Yeah, signed editions are usually promoted by the specific stores themselves. I've seen events listed on local store websites that include signed copies if you pre-order, for example. IndieBound just points you to the store.

how long does shipping usually take if i order something through a store linked on IndieBound? i live in NYC, wondering if it'll be quick.

J Jacob Jones 3 weeks ago
It really depends on the bookstore you choose. Since IndieBound just directs you to their sites, you'd have to check that specific store's shipping policy. Some local ones might even offer local pickup if you're close enough!

B Brian Anderson 2 weeks ago
Each store sets their own shipping times. I ordered from a California store to New York once and it took about a week, but a closer store might be faster. Always check the store's website before ordering.

i'm trying to decide between buying from here or Bookshop.org. what's the main difference, like is one better for finding specific local stores?

J Jeff Johnson 1 week ago
IndieBound is more about connecting you directly with specific local stores and their own inventory, while Bookshop.org pools sales to support a wider network of independent stores. If you want to know if *your* specific local spot has a book, IndieBound is usually better for that.

L Laura White 1 week ago
I think IndieBound is better if you have a favorite local store in mind. Bookshop.org is great too, but it's more general support for indies. IndieBound feels more direct to me.
